How My OCD is Helping Me Write

I've kept logs of my daily activities since 1994. Living with my grandmother made me fear getting Alzheimer's one day and forgetting my past, so I started writing down everything I did every day in date books. Obsessively I'd record the hours I worked, how much I made, what I did for exercise, who I talked to on the phone, what TV shows I watched, who I hung out with, what I'd consumed in the way of mind altering substances... I know it's crazy, but going back and referring to these journals helped me accurately write "Down the Rabbit Hole," and is helping me write an honest history in "Voicemails From My Sister." So, I highly recommend compulsively detailing every day on paper. If for no other reason than it might stave off memory loss.
