Exploring thought patterns

Writing this next book (tentatively titled "Don't Date Your Dad") has become a real exploration of causes and effects. I'm going back in my dayplanners (thank you OCD) and seeing what happened and identifying what my thoughts were in the moment, and then how I reacted. Not so that I can blame someone else, but so that I can get a clearer picture of how past events affect my current thinking. The human thought process is very interesting to me, and it's been quite revealing digging deeper into my own thought patterns and exploring why I think the way I do.

We'll see what this book ends up being, but the writing process has been clarifying. And, as Marion Roach Smith says, "if you're not learning anything new about yourself while writing a memoir, then you're not writing a very good memoir."
