One of the coolest things about - well, about life, I guess - is connecting with cool, interesting, new people.
As a trauma survivor my first thought is, "don't reach out/speak up/participate. No one cares what you have to say." But that is an untrue belief that comes from years of abuse. The truth is when I reach out I am always welcomed.
I continue to meet new friends even in this lockdown. I go to Zoom meetings and workshops. I reach out via Facebook, email and the good, old fashioned telephone.
Isolations breeds depression. The antidote to depression is action. I take the action (i.e. call someone), which changes the thinking (depression). It simply doesn't work the other way around. If I wait until my thinking changes (my depression goes away) to take the action (call someone) I'll be waiting forever.
